For utilities providing natural gas services, there can sometimes be a scenario where certain customer accounts incur a negative usage amount. When this occurs, it makes little sense to apply usage charges for customers with negative usage amounts.

Able Software has recently added a special “Calculation Method” for natural gas customers where this situation occurs. In order to utilize this convenient new feature, please review the following steps with your Utility Star System:

1. Users should update their Utility Star software to version 9.9.102 or higher.

2. Log in UTP, go to Config->Rate->Usage Rate, then select a “Usage Rate”. Once the Usage Rate function has been selected, please click on “Edit” to access the “Add/Update Usage Rate Revenue Code” window. Then select “N” (Negative Usage Amount Zero) from the drop-down list for Calculation Methods (and then click OK).

3. This way, all “negative usage” customer accounts will be charged with zero usage during the customer billing process.
