One of the primary functions within Utility Star software is running the batch payment process. Able Software has recently enhanced the batch payment function by increasing the number of supported characters from 5 to 8 and also supporting alphanumeric characters instead of number characters only. So Utility Star software now allows up to 8 alphanumeric characters to be used for a payment batch number. This improvement makes it easier for Utility companies to record and manage individual payment batches.
Here is how you access the “Alphanumeric Batch Number” function.
1. Your Utility Star system should be updated to version 9.9.103 or higher.
2. Log in Utility Star, Company -> Rule Management -> Alphanumeric Batch Number. If the new rule is enabled, up to 8 alphanumeric characters may be used; if disabled, the only up to 5 numeric characters are allowed.

3. After enabling Alphanumeric Batch Numbering, go to Company -> Payment -> Payment Entry and you’ll be able to enter alphanumeric characters in the Batch Number field.
